Mother's Day 2024

It seems like each Mother's Day gets better than the last! Last year we spent the weekend getting engaged and celebrating with our families, and this year we got to share the news that we are pregnant with our parents and sisters! I had anxiously been counting down until Mother's Day mainly because I could not wait to tell our families, but also because our first ultrasound appointment fell right before the weekend. Obviously, it didn't feel truly real until we had the pregnancy confirmed by the doctor and heard the heartbeat for the first time. This was such a special moment for Charles and me, and it was so surreal! Looking at the monitor, we were just in awe that there is a real baby growing inside of me! The human body is truly a miraculous thing. After our ultrasound confirmation appointment, we went to meet with my OBGYN to ask any and all questions. It was so special to have Charles with me throughout it all, and we went to Bartaco that evening to celebrate and scheme how we would break the news!

We headed to Athens Friday after work and got busy right away helping babysit the Pittard boys. Initially, we were going to rip off the Band-Aid and tell them right when we got there, but it was too chaotic with the kids and we didn't feel like we would be able to fully focus and talk about everything. We enjoyed a homecooked meal before heading to Will's flag football game. Once we got home, we put the kids to bed and poured some champagne! I gave my mom her Mother's Day gift then (the Storyworth book we had been working on for the past year) since we would not be there on actual Mother's Day. Of course, dad was not paying attention and being anti-social, which we gave him a hard time for before mom opened the gift. As she was flipping through the pages, she stumbled across our ultrasound photo, and was SHOCKED! It was so fun seeing their reaction and I'm so thankful we caught this memory on video. The next day, we played tennis with the boys in the driveway, visited the garden and playground, and enjoyed a fun outdoor lunch at the club before Charles and I headed to Augusta!

Once we arrived in Augusta, we headed to an outdoor gun range with his parents! Although apprehensive at first, it was actually such a fun experience and I am glad I gave it a go! Afterward, we went back to the house and had some appetizers in the den. This is when Charles went ahead and had his mom open her Mother's Day gifts, which included a funny Trump plaque and a baby's first dumbbell rattle, which she immediately recognized as a sign we were pregnant. They took the news better than expected (they were very excited and happy for us!), and we then Facetimed Greyson and Marshall. At first, Greyson thought it was a dog toy (LOL!), but they were so excited too! We then celebrated with champagne for them and a yummy steak, baked potato, and salad dinner and The Beekeeper movie. On Sunday, we went to church and had brunch at Midtown Tavern before heading BACK to Athens to tell the final four... Sarah, Sam, and the boys!! We got to their house and casually checked out the boys' new room before finally giving Sarah her Mother's Day card, which was signed Ali, Charles, and Baby Walker. She initially read the card, said thank you, and started putting it back! So I interrupted and said, "did you even read it?!" She went back to reread, it finally registered, and yet another reaction I am so grateful we have on video! They were both so surprised and it was so fun FINALLY being able to talk about ALL the things with her! I know this will be such a special time overlapping a few months pregnant together and then raising her youngest/my oldest only a few months apart.

Charles and I finally headed home to Atlanta and soaked up every moment of such a special weekend!
