Word of 2021

As I began brainstorming my word for 2021, I found it much more difficult than years past. Maybe it's because 2020 brought on enough change and uncertainty to last a decade. From a global pandemic and new work "normal" to family changes and moving into a place of my own, stability should probably be my word of choice for 2021. However, I wanted to think of a word that encompassed all that I hope for in the new year.

Stretch (verb): make great demands on the capacity or resources of; cause (someone) to make maximum use of their talents or abilities.

When thinking about the year ahead, I know things will look differently for quite some time. The word "normal" will forever be changed, but that doesn't mean we can't accomplish great things or make amazing memories with the ones we love. I decided a word I want to apply to different facets of my life is "stretch." I will stretch myself by taking on new challenges, stepping outside of my comfort zone, and taking advantage of the opportunities that come my way.

One way I plan to step beyond my comfort zone is to start counseling. I am looking forward to using this resource to help me be my best self. I also am also excited to get involved, continue learning new things, and further develop the relationships in my life. Other ways I can stretch and maximize my talents is to take on new challenges at work, search for ways to apply myself more in other areas, and explore new hobbies and interests.

I am looking forward to making the most of my last year in my 20s!
