Word for 2020

As I reflect on the past year, I am once again amazed at how quickly it flew by. My word of focus for 2019 was invest, which I think was practiced as I invested in myself by crossing things off my Bucket List (completing two half-marathons, traveling to Napa Valley, going to New York near Christmas time and adding Vermont to my list of visited states), focusing on self care (becoming a beauty member at Lux Med Spa to consistently treat myself and visiting 2U Medical to improve my health), and reading new books (Where the Crawdads Sing, The Other Woman, Daisy Jones and the Six, Girl Wash your Face, and Mind in the Making). I invested in my relationships as I attended weddings, celebrated engagements, traveled with friends, and dated new people. Now I am looking forward to the start of a new decade, and hopefully new beginnings. 2020 will be focused on the word commit, and I am looking forward to showing commitment in different compartments of my life in order to live life to the fullest and make. things. happen.

Commit to myself. In order to show a commitment to myself, I am striving to reach a healthy level of confidence through my body image, self-knowledge, and personal growth this year. One way for me to feel more confident is by committing to my health. 2019 provided a lot of insight into my body, and I look forward to monitoring my food sensitivities, maintaining a regular work out regimen, and continuing to invest in products and services that support my skin and body image. In order to improve my confidence through self-knowledge, I am going to consistently reflect and journal my interests, goals, and idiosyncrasies to really understand what makes me who I am. This will help me lead a more decisive life and be more confident in my interactions with others as I open up on dates, meet new friends, etc. Lastly, I will develop my confidence through personal growth by developing my intellect. I plan to do that by continuing to read new books, travel to new places, and learn new things, such as the piano and Spanish. I am looking forward to utilizing the apps Duolingo, Lumosity, and Infographic to hold me accountable for these goals. One of my favorite quotes is "know everything about something and something about everything." I feel like growing intellectually will develop my conversation skills and make me more interesting to the people I meet.

Commit to others.  I plan to commit to others by consistently reaching out to friends and family to schedule a quick phone call, a walk after work, or dinner at a new restaurant. I will also show this commitment by getting involved in my community, whether it be joining a tennis team or volunteering. Surrounding myself with others brings me joy, and making my relationships a priority is a way to network, meet new people, and have an impact on others.

Commit to God. Lastly and most importantly, I want to renew my commitment to God. For some reason consistently making it to church each week tends to be a struggle for me. However, I recognize that prayer, daily devotion, and online church services are additional ways to grow closer to God outside of the church. My relationship with God is #1, and making it a priority above all else is a step towards trusting in His plan for me.

Bring it on 2020!
